ATF admits a year is needed to review public comments on 41P Featured

According to our industry partners, the American Silencer Association (AFA), BATFE will need about a year to review all the submissions made during the public comment period for ATF 41p—the Obama Administration’s proposal to create more red tape for paperwork for NFA firearms. We learned this yesterday during our attendance at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas during which discussions took place between BATFE and ASA.

This means it’s possible no final decision whether to enact, amend, or reject 41P will happen this calendar year.

The fact of the matter is, the only real changes that have happened regarding NFA firearms is the new ATF eFile, which remains a huge improvement in the registration process. This new system, limited to applicants like trusts, issues tax stamps in about 90-100 days.
