We help clients with estate planning for gun collections.
Arsenal Attorneys have earned a national reputation in estate planning and estate administration for firearms. We have served thousands of clients across America in this area of law, and we regularly teach these topics to other lawyers in seminars for the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Financial Planners Association and others. We are particularly renowned for our proprietary Arsenal Gun Trust solution.
The majority of our clients nationwide use the Arsenal Gun Trust to register, share, and distribute firearms regulated under the National Firearms Act (“NFA”). We offer a special design for the needs of California gun owners, who generally cannot possess NFA firearms. In these cases, we first conduct a personal consultation to determine whether a trust or a last will and testament would best accomplish the client's goals in light of California’s complex regulation of assault weapons, ammunition, and firearms transfers.
To illustrate the special concerns raised by California law, gun owners in that state should know there are certain firearms which are legal for to own but would be illegal to inherit. We help clients ascertain the legal status of their gun collection and design an estate plan which protects the people who will handle or inherit those firearms in the future.
We believe a well-crafted estate plan for firearms should promote gun safety, ensure compliance with the law, protect privacy, and provide contingency plans if the client’s successors cannot take possession of a firearm, whether due to a change in the law or the successor’s own ineligibility to own a gun.
